GET NERDY WITH US?

Coffee enemas naturally aid your digestive system, helping your body eliminate waste, parasites, candida, and fungus. The caffeine bypasses the digestive system, gets absorbed directly in the bloodstream, and takes a shortcut to the liver. Once there, the caffeine stimulates production of glutathione, the liver’s master antioxidant, by over 600%!

It also stimulates bile production which, in turn, aids digestion and detoxification. This incredible boost not only helps your body’s ability to eliminate waste – it helps remove toxins and free radicals from the bloodstream, strengthening the immune function, the parasympathetic nervous system, energy levels, and more.

TL;DR: Caffeine goes straight to your liver, kickstarts bile flow which boosts the detox and waste elimination process, and increases antioxidants by a cr@p ton.

How do I keep my enema bag clean?

It's important to ensure your enema kit has been properly cleaned and dried after each use to remove any bacteria and to ensure that no mold grows inside.

1. Rinse your bag, tubing, and tips immediately after use with warm water and natural and/or non-toxic soap.

  • If you performed a water enema, you don’t need to use soap every time to wash the bag, but do use soap every time to wash the tip.
  • If you performed a coffee enema, we recommend rinsing with soap immediately after to ensure the silicone does not get stained from the solution.

2. Alternatively, or additionally, you can use Hydrogen Peroxide or bacteria-fighting essential oils such as Eucalyptus or Tea Tree.

3. Next, let your bag dry thoroughly. We recommend hanging the bag on a towel rack to dry completely, but you can also turn the bag inside out. Do not hang to dry the bag in a damp area such as a sauna or shower.

4. To avoid mold, ensure all parts are detached from the tube it can dry completely. You can first shake the tube or blow through the tube to release any spare droplet of water. Tubes should be hung straight and vertically (NOT coiled) until they are completely dry. Coiling will dramatically slow down drying and promote mold growth.

  • If you’re using your kit daily, mold is less likely to grow as water isn’t sitting inside it for long periods of time.

5. Every couple of weeks, we suggest boiling or dishwashing the tips to avoid any contamination or bacteria growth.

As an extra precaution, a visual inspection of the equipment should also be undertaken before each enema.

Are they safe? Can anyone do it?

Yes, enemas are safe! We always use FDA-approved, non-toxic, organic materials with safe, easy clean-up and storage options. Please follow your instructional booklet for correct usage. And always check with your primary care physician or licensed medical professional before attempting a coffee enema.

Coffee enemas are not recommended unless under strict supervision of an experienced Gerson Practitioner if any of the following exist:

  • Currently undergoing chemotherapy
  • Renal, cardiac or respiratory failure
  • Bleeding and/or ulceration in the colon tract
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Ileostomy (no colon)
  • Hypertension and/or tachycardia
  • Pregnant
  • Acute or ongoing chronic diarrhea until investigated by a physician
  • First 6-8 weeks post-surgery

Is the process messy?

No, it’s not messy, but you’ll want to make sure you use the clamp on the hose. This ensures the solution does not trickle out of the hose. We recommend performing your enema on a towel in the shower or bathroom floor, close to the toilet for easy “hold-to-flow” access.

How often can I do an enema?

That depends on how constipated you are. If you are currently backed up by a few days to a week, you may want to perform daily enemas until you find relief. We recommend a 360° approach to gut therapy.

When is the best time of day to do an enema?

Anytime at all, although on an empty stomach is the most beneficial. Because you may get a boost of energy after your first enema, we recommend your first time is in the morning. After that, many people find themselves very relaxed after evening enemas.

Help! I can’t hold the solution!

Don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal to struggle with holding the enema solution at first. The more you do them, the easier it’ll be. Celebrate the small successes!

How long after will I go poop?

You should get immediate relief. If your colon is very backed up, it may take a few days. Take that as a signal to Trust Your Gut some more – through detoxing and a healthy lifestyle!

Why do I feel bloated after an enema?

If you’re bloated, it could be one of two things:

  1. You’re backed up, so the enema didn’t clear your entire colon. The rest of the poo is now softened but still there, leaving you feeling extra bloat. You can try another enema to get full relief.
  2. Your body is dehydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of water during your detox.

Do I need to replace electrolytes?

Yes, hydration is very important! Electrolytes are lost during evacuation, and therefore coffee enemas should always be balanced by juice. The typical ratio is 3:1 (three 8 oz. juices for each coffee enema). Those not on a Gerson Therapy protocol should drink plenty of water.
